to carry out a spectrum of duties.

 Their tasks include assisting patients with personal care and conducting clinical duties, in addition to carrying out, monitoring, and recording the results of medical tests, which the Healthcare Professional will analyse.

To be successful as a Healthcare Assistant, you should possess a caring and nurturing personality.

 You should also be able to handle physically demanding tasks, such as supporting the weight of patients to aid mobility, turning patients over, and lifting heavy medical equipment.

 

Healthcare Assistant Requirements:

NVQ Qualification in Health and Social Care.
Pass a medical check.
Clear background check.
Previous experience in a caring role, preferred.
Previous medical experience is useful but not essential.
The desire to work with all people, irrespective of background, race, or creed.
Good communication skills.
Good listening skills.
Physically able to lift patients.
A tactful and approachable personality.

Duties and Responsibilities will include recording the observations of patients such as:

Ensuring that supplies and medical equipment are replenished.
Improving the mobility of patients.
Setting up equipment required by Healthcare Professionals.
Taking and Recording the temperature of the patient
Taking and recording the pulse rate of the patient
Taking and recording the respiration rate of the patient
Measuring patients’ weight.
Preparing patients for therapy.
Making up beds, giving out bedpans, and collecting bedpans.

Community Phlebotomist – Band 3

The role:

The post holder will be required to work independently, liaise with other healthcare professionals, clinicians, laboratory staff, patients and/or their representatives.

 This may be in a hospital, GP surgery, outreach clinic and/or a patient’s home. The post holder must observe the policies and procedures relevant to the role.

 The work involves the post holder must contribute to a quality blood collection service, routinely handling biological samples that may contain pathogenic microorganisms.

 All patient categories including high risk and isolation patients are included in the job requirements

Key Responsibilities:

To be fully competent in all aspects of venepuncture as according to the Trust Venepuncture Policy and practice different approaches to the technique maintaining competency levels through annual reassessment protocols.
To carry out phlebotomy duties as agreed by the senior members of staff and to bring any problems to the attention of the line manager that may arise during the course of their duty.
To learn and maintain an up to date knowledge of the blood tests performed by the various departments and their appropriate bottles and containers.
To label blood samples as directed in the Venepuncture Policy.
To ensure samples are correctly packaged for transportation to the laboratory.
To be fully conversant with the Phlebotomy Policy, departmental Standard Operating Procedures ensuring that personal performance complies with Clinical Pathology Accreditation [CPA] standards.
To liaise with the other staff especially the doctors and nurses on the ward, GP’s in the surgeries and the Biomedical Scientists and Anticoagulant Nurses in Pathology.
